Hoping to refine the technique a bit, but still in need of some help with appropriate lighting conditions. The light seems to bounce around quite a bit. Back lighting seems better than front. Also better control of the dripper would be great as well. Images are taken in the dark, in a black frying pan filled with water, while dripping red food coloring, and shooting an off-camera flash wrapped in a purple plastic cellophane gift bag. And after all the set-p was complete it was actually pretty fun to shoot!

I've never attempted a shot like these; not sure I'd know where to begin. A couple of nice photos there that might justify printing at large scale.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement. Yes, I'm hunting around in the dark 8-) about appropriate lighting, but I do have a headlamp which is currently not being used, so we'll see if some side low-level lighting can help. Obviously I still need to get the damn focus set on the right spot, as I think I'm missing some really cool micro-splashes. And if I could get the lens at more water level I think it could help as well, particularly with a cool reflection. In any case thanks for bearing with me as I inch my way down the rabbit hole.
